 
 I am proud to present to you the 2010 Iowa Health - Des Moines Annual Report and Blank Children's Hospital Impact Report. In these reports, you will find stories that personalize our mission of healing, caring and teaching. It is my hope that in reading these inspiring stories, you will gain an appreciation for the care that happens every day within the walls of our hospitals as well as within the communities we serve.
You will also find objective data on how Iowa Health - Des Moines is performing both financially and through clinical quality initiatives. This includes data on how we are performing in relation to state and national benchmarks in a number of key clinical areas. In addition, we have included our community benefit numbers so that you can see how we are giving back in our community through charity care, health education, and health improvement activities to name a few. While we continually add new technologies, treatments and therapies, the high-quality, compassionate care delivered at our hospitals and clinics is driven by our people. Without their daily contributions, the quality of life in central Iowa would be deeply impacted.
