Blank Children's Hospital
Designed just for kids, the new Blank Children's Cancer and Blood Disorders Center supported by the Deb & Jeff Hansen Foundation provides comprehensive and coordinated medical care for children by a multi-disciplinary team of pediatric specialists. It is the only center in central Iowa treating kids with cancer and blood disorders. Our new family-friendly clinic provides the best possible treatments and health care for children and their families.
The newly expanded space features:
• More exam rooms
• Large family space where patients and families can play, do activities and connect with each other
• Consultation rooms
• Expanded infusion rooms
• Dedicated procedure rooms
• Psychologist testing room
• Conference room for webinars, education and telemedicine
• New Adolescent Young Adult and Survivorship Program
• Dedicated space for our research coordinators
Donation Makes Center Possible
Without the generous donation and vision from Jeff and Deb Hansen and Iowa Select Farms the new space for children fighting cancer and blood disorders and their families wouldn't be possible.
"We are deeply honored to give our support to Blank Children's Hospital for this newly expanded center," said Jeff Hansen, CEO of Iowa Select Farms and co-founder of the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation. "Blank is an extraordinary children's hospital that serves all of Iowa's 99 counties and is committed to fighting pediatric cancer and blood disorders."
"This is a spacious and comfortable first-class facility designed to make the care of children and their families the best it can possibly be," added Deb Hansen. "We appreciate the comfort that peaceful rooms like these will provide for cancer patients and their families during stressful times."
The Hansen's generous gift was supported with many other gifts from dedicated donors: Jan & Lloyd Taylor; The Coons Foundation; Jamie & Ellen Pollard; and Charity with a Twist Event. There is special Sticks artwork designed in celebration of Jennifer Dowd in the waiting room and family area, and Speck USA designed and donated the unique conference table. Other in-kind donations were made of toys and electronics from families supporting the new clinic.
About the Service
The specialized cancer and blood disorders team at Blank Children's Hospital consists of four board certified pediatric hematologists/oncologists, plus specially trained providers dedicated to caring for children with cancer and blood disorders. The physicians, nurses, social workers, child life specialists and staff work together to provide the latest treatments in a family-centered care environment. Blank Children's Hospital is affiliated with the Children's Oncology Group, which enables cancer centers from across the country to share information about the latest treatment protocols available. This means children receive the same, sophisticated care here in central Iowa that they would receive at other leading children's cancer centers.
