UnityPoint Health - Des Moines
West Des Moines-based UnityPoint Health and Meriter Health Services (MHS), Madison, Wisconsin, announced today that they have agreed to combine their operations through an affiliation agreement in which Meriter will become an affiliate of UnityPoint Health.
The announcement marks a substantial step towards creating a strategic partnership that will complement UnityPoint Health's current provider group and expand its service area to Meriter’s South Central Wisconsin region. The affiliation provides UnityPoint Health and Meriter the ability to continue to develop their population health and care coordination capabilities while providing Meriter with greater efficiencies available through UnityPoint. The next step is preparing the necessary filings with the appropriate regulatory agencies.
By combining operations, UnityPoint Health and Meriter can further develop a value-based way of delivering health care services. The elements of this modern, patient-centered delivery system include improving care coordination, expanding access to care, sharing best practices on care processes to improve quality and efficiency, and optimizing the use of resources.
“Meriter has a history of providing quality care and services in the Madison region, not only through its hospital and clinics, but also through its health maintenance organization, Physicians Plus Insurance Corporation (“Physicians Plus”),” said Bill Leaver, President and CEO of UnityPoint Health. “The strengths, both individual and shared, of our two organizations create exciting opportunities to successfully navigate the changing healthcare landscape. Together, we will improve access, value and quality care throughout the Madison region.”
“Like Meriter, UnityPoint Health has a culture of patient-focused care, community-minded spirit and high-quality, lower-cost health care,” said Jim Woodward, President of Meriter. “In the affiliation, UnityPoint Health will provide resources to MHS, supporting and enhancing the services provided to the community, including taking an ownership interest in Physicians Plus and providing clinical practice and management support to Meriter Medical Group.”
