Iowa Lutheran Hospital Auxiliary: Celebrating 100 Years of Caring Service

August 20, 2010

Provided By:

For more than 100 years, the Iowa Lutheran Auxiliary has generously donated countless volunteer hours and financial support toward the betterment of Iowa Lutheran Hospital. Their dedication has nurtured a caring environment for patients, visitors and staff.

In 1910, four years before Iowa Lutheran Hospital opened, the Auxiliary was founded to to raise funds for its establishment. When the hospital opened in 1914, the auxiliary members were involved through sewing. The women came to sew blankets, smocks and aprons. In the 1950's, Auxiliary members began providing the first direct service function - delivering flowers to patients.  Today, both male and female members play many roles.  From helping in the gift shop to escorting patients, the Auxiliary members touch almost every area of the hospital.

Join us as we celebrate their spirit and enthusiasm.
