Iowa Health - Des Moines Physicians and Clinics has begun construction on a new, comprehensive 14,000 square foot primary care physician clinic on SW State Street, in Ankeny's growing Prairie Trail development. The new clinic is scheduled to open in May 2011. The new clinic is part of a complete "network of care" for Ankeny with four different clinics, each with their own special complement of healthcare services.

The new Family Physicians at Prairie Trail and Internal Medicine at Prairie Trail clinics will have Family Medicine, Internal Medicine and Occupational Medicine physician practices, digital radiography and an on-site medical laboratory. The clinic will be open extended hours several days of the week. Iowa Health - Des Moines also plans to have leading medical specialists provide care at the clinic, in such critical areas as cardiology and orthopaedics.

"Ankeny continues to grow and needs more specialized and accessible healthcare services," said Eric Crowell, President and CEO of Iowa Health - Des Moines. "There's a growing senior population, and a high birth rate - Ankeny is growing across the age spectrum. With clinic locations throughout the community, now enhanced by the new physicians and staff who will be a part of Prairie Trail, we feel we're doing everything we can to provide great healthcare services for Ankeny and other nearby communities north of the Des Moines metro."

The Prairie Trail clinic is being built to accommodate five Family Medicine physicians, four Internal Medicine physicians and one Occupational Medicine physician, plus room for the visiting specialists. Approximately 40 medical professionals will be employed when the clinic is fully staffed.

The clinic is being built by Hubbell Construction Services. The street address is 2515 SW State Street, near the intersection of State Street and Prairie Trail Parkway.

Additional Iowa Health - Des Moines clinic updates in Ankeny include: 

• The original Ankeny Clinic (1105 North Ankeny Boulevard) will continue to provide Family Medicine, and Urgent Care. The clinic has three physicians, one Physician Assistant and an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner.
• The Ankeny Pediatric Clinic at 909 SW Oralabor Road will be reconfigured later this winter into a Women's and Children's clinic. Five pediatricians will continue their practice there, joined by three OB/GYN physicians and one advanced nurse practitioner (ARNP) who practice now at the Ankeny Clinic.
• Blank Children's Pediatric Physical Therapy has already moved and is now located at 2701 Convenience Blvd.
• And, Iowa Health - Des Moines Express Care offers fast and convenient walk-in care at Hy-Vee's Ankeny store, 410 North Ankeny Boulevard.
