During one 48-hour period Iowa Methodist Medical Center had 42 babies born. That's almost one birth each hour - far more than the hospital's eight- to 10-a-day average. But at the end of the weekend the staff was breathing a sigh of relief and most of the new mothers were home with their children.
Hospital officials brought in extra doctors and nurses, they had enough rooms to house everyone, and they made sure to order pizza to keep the staff going. It's a credit to the staff in getting everybody through. Everyone had a room and were healthy, safe, taken care of. I don't know how we did this as well as we did, but everything worked out.
Thank you to all of our staff!
