Mark Preston M.D., a psychiatrist with Iowa Health - Des Moines Psychiatry Services, was selected to receive a 2012 NAMI Exemplary Psychiatrist Award, nominated by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Jasper County.

This year's awards are given to psychiatrists noteworthy for going the extra mile and who have made substantial contributions to a NAMI Affiliate or NAMI State Organization activities. Award winners are recognized for their advocacy for access to care and research funding, community education programs or other NAMI priorities. Winners have also provided comprehensive treatment to consumers including medical, rehabilitative and social needs or have taken the time to educate family members and people living with mental illness.

Dr. Preston will be honored during a special presentation for this year's award winners at the 2012 American Psychiatric Association's Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Monday, May 7.
