Executive Director at John Stoddard Receives DMACC Alumni Award

Carma Herring John Stoddard Cancer CenterCarma Herring, Executive Director of the John Stoddard Cancer Center at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, has been named a recipient of the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) Outstanding Alumni Association Award.

 

Herring began her nursing career in 1973 and earned her associate degree in Nursing from DMACC in 1977.  She joined Iowa Methodist Medical Center as a clinical nurse specialist in 1982 before going on to earn her bachelor's degree in 1986 and master's degree in 1993 from the College of St. Francis. 

 

Throughout her career, she has held positions as the Kavanaugh team director for Hospice of Central Iowa, as the clinic care coordinator for Iowa Health - Des Moines Physicians, as research administrator for the Human Gene Therapy Research Institute, as clinical consultant for Schering Plough Oncology and as clinical director for Medical Oncology & Hematology Associates, a private practice of 16 oncologists that serves central Iowa.  She was elected to the Oncology Nursing Society Board in 1995.  She became executive director of the John Stoddard Cancer Center in 2010. 

 

Herring is a member of the Komen of Iowa Board of Directors and American Cancer Society State Leadership Council, as well as co-chair of the Leukemia Lymphoma Society Light the Night Walk.  She remains active in her church and is a past member of the Earlham School Board. 

 

Herring was recognized by the DMACC Alumni Association in a special event recently held at the DMACC Ankeny Campus.
