Congratulations to Brian Dotts of Life Flight for receiving an UnityPoint Health - Des Moines ACE Award. The ACE (Always Committed to Excellence) Awards recognize the outstanding achievements of UnityPoint Health - Des Moines employees. Below is the nomination letter written for Brian and an example of the great work he does for our community.
I would like to nominate Brian Dotts for an ACE award as he exemplifies our CORE value of Excellence. I have come to know Brian through his participation in Retention/Recruitment Committee (R&R) over the past several years. At our last R&R meeting, Brian approached me to speak to a group of DMACC Nursing students about employment at UnityPoint Health - Des Moines (IHDM). Brian's commitment to excellence extends past his expected work duties to educating these students about the many opportunities at IHDM that the students do not get to experience in their clinical rotations.
He arranged speakers and tours for the students so they could see and hear about the following areas of nursing practice at IHDM: Life Flight, Neonatal Transport, Pediatric Transport, Child Life, Advanced Practice Nursing, Blank 4, PICU, NICU, Cath Lab, Adult ER, Pediatric ER, Adult ICU and OB. In addition, they were able to see our Helicopter, Pediatric Ambulance and Simulation Lab.
The time and energy he devoted to arranging this experience for approximately 45 students is invaluable as a means to ignite interest in nursing careers available at IHDM. In our efforts to improve retention, career advancement through moving our staff into specialized roles or new areas of interest is critical. As a member of the HR team, I appreciate how Brian's actions help us recruit great employees. In fitting tribute, Brian was recognized as one of the 100 Great Nurses in Iowa this year.
Brian also demonstrates excellence in our community as he volunteers to support high school students and mission trips with youth.
Brian was nominated by Jane Coy of Human Resources.
