Congratulations to Librarian Nancy O'Brien for receiving an UnityPoint Health - Des Moines ACE Award. The ACE (Always Committed to Excellence) Awards recognize the outstanding achievements of UnityPoint Health - Des Moines employees. Below is the nomination letter written for Nancy and an example of the great care she provides.
Nancy has been an invaluable contributor to the trauma research program. Nancy provides us with a complete and exhaustive literature search on topics that have been published in the research areas we discuss. Once we determine which articles we need, Nancy obtains the articles for us.
There are two things that stand out about Nancy. First, she provides us information faster than the speed of light, sound or Superman. When Nancy receives a request, we have the information the same day - typically within the same hour. Secondly, Nancy reviews recent articles that come out within the area of trauma in search of potential research ideas. Several of Nancy's suggestions sparked discussion about future research, and one developed into a complete research project for our student intern. Nancy does all this with grace and a warm, pleasant attitude. Nancy's support has contributed immensely to a timely forward movement within the trauma research program.
In addition to Nancy's contributions to the trauma program, she has been instrumental in the completion of both my BSN and Master's Degree. Not only has Nancy provided me with requested information at "the speed of light," she has assisted me in obtaining textbooks from our library and obtained materials "on loan" for me. This has made the challenge of completing my education less stressful and more affordable. Nancy is pleasant to work with and truly exhibits our CORE values.
Nancy was nominated by Katie Heldt and Catherine Renner of Trauma Services.
