Congratulations to Wendy Woods-Swafford, Nick Fustino and Marilyn Arnold, from the Blank Children's Hospital Hematology/Oncology Team, for receiving an UnityPoint Health - Des Moines ACE Award. The ACE (Always Committed to Excellence) Awards recognize the outstanding achievements of UnityPoint Health - Des Moines employees. Below is the nomination letter written for Wendy, Nick and Marilyn, and an example of the great care they provide.

On January 6, 2012, as I was rounding with the Blank Children's Hematology/Oncology physician, I observed the following transpire. One of our cancer patients was in the final stages of her disease and so sick that she was not able to come to the clinic for a visit. Because the patient was in distress and needed an adjustment to her medical device, it was imperative that she be seen by her physician. Without a second thought, Dr. Woods and Marilyn said they would see the patient at her home. Dr. Fustino asked if they could use an extra set of hands and volunteered to accompany them on the home visit. Dr. Woods took him up on his offer. These three showed on this day the commitment to excellence in patient care and humanity that we all strive to embody here at IHDM.
