Preparing for a new baby is an exciting and detailed process. MaryBeth Meyer, 25, of Des Moines, got help throughout her pregnancy and delivery from a midwife.

On their one-year wedding anniversary on January 22, 2011, MaryBeth and her husband Chris found out that they were expecting. After researching and seeking advice from friends and family, MaryBeth desired to have a birthing professional who could provide assistance throughout the entire pregnancy. She elected to use UnityPoint Health - Des Moines's physician-led midwifery services.

When MaryBeth experienced bleeding at the eighth week of her pregnancy, she worried about miscarriage and called the Midwife Clinic. The midwife on call that day spent more than two hours with MaryBeth and Chris to answer any questions and ensure the health of MaryBeth and baby.

A Brand New Baby Girl

After the brief but scary event, MaryBeth had a healthy pregnancy without any further complications. She gave birth to a baby girl, Addison, on October 6, 2011, with delivery guidance from a midwife.

"My midwife was in the delivery room the entire time, keeping me informed and reassuring me that I would soon be meeting my baby girl," says MaryBeth. "I have recommended midwives to friends and family, and I would not change anything about my birth experience."
