In support of making the greater Des Moines area a healthy community and promoting wellness to residents, a new resource is available to make it easier to get outside, be active and live a healthy lifestyle.

A new and updated Greater Des Moines Regional Trails map has been developed in a convenient pocket size to help navigate the central Iowa trails and resources.  The map includes biking, walking and running trails, single-track trails, water trails for canoeing and kayaking and various amenities such as trail heads, parking and water stops.

The map is made possible through work and support of the Des Moines Bicycle Collective, UnityPoint Health - Des Moines, Great Outdoors Fund and Polk County Conservation.

"This map provides a great resource to people wanting to get outside and live an active lifestyle in central Iowa. Getting out to walk, run, bike and explore can go a long way to maintain health and fight obesity.  It also shows great collaboration among area organizations working to address health issues by promoting wellness and giving people the opportunity to take responsibility to maintain their health,"  said Dr. Marc Molis, M.D.,  Sports Medicine of Iowa.

There are 60,000 maps available throughout the community. They can be found at local bike shops, UnityPoint Health - Des Moines clinics and many local city halls. A web version can be found at dsmbikecollective.org or at iowahealth.org.
