Tanner Ruberg died January 21, 2010, just nine days after his 17th birthday, from injuries received while snowmobiling with friends.
Tanner was a friend to everyone and made sure the people he cared about knew it. He believed in giving hugs and never ended a text or phone call to family or close friends without saying "I love you." He had an infectious smile that lit up a room, and he left an impression on everyone he met. Once he met you, you were his friend.
Tanner was an avid athlete, playing football, basketball, baseball and track beginning at a very young age. Football was his favorite. He shined on the field as a fullback, and the year he died, he was the leading scorer and had the most yardage for his team. As a junior in high school, he was already receiving recruiting calls for college.
Our family was torn apart the night Tanner died, but we were comforted to know his life lives on in the people who received his organs. We also made the decision to donate his ligaments and tendons once we heard they would go to help other athletes.
Tanner was our shining star, that now we only see in the sky and in our dreams. We patiently await the day we are reunited.
