Family Libraries
Family Resource Library :: Iowa Methodist Medical Center and Blank Children's Hospital
This library has health-related materials written for children as well as for adults on health concerns throughout the life span. Toys and picture books welcome children. Special events include visits from pet therapy animals and story times. The library also has a special collection of materials on grief and death. Internet access is available. Movies may be checked-out.
The Cancer Resource Library
Also available at the Family Resource Library is information on cancer and cancer treatment from John Stoddard Cancer Center. The library contains videos, audiotapes, CDs, books and brochures aimed to help patients and their loved ones understand more about cancer.
Family Healthcare Library :: Iowa Lutheran Hospital
This library has health-related materials primarily for adults. Look for special materials on parenting, aging and mental health disorders. Videotapes on a variety of topics and relaxation cassettes are also available.
The family libraries at Iowa Methodist Medical Center/Blank Children's Hospital and Iowa Lutheran Hospital provide free access to accurate and understandable health-related materials to patients, visitors and families in central Iowa. The libraries are open to the public and have books, pamphlets and newsletters written especially for the nonprofessional. Access to the Internet is available for research or a quick email to loved ones. An extensive list of authoritative, health-related Web sites will get you started. Specially trained volunteers staff the library, with professional librarians also available to assist you.
