Blank Children's Hospital
Always & Only Just for Kids
In 1944, the Raymond Blank Memorial Hospital for children was the only civilian hospital built during WWII when polio was raging across the state of Iowa. It was because of the untimely death of young Raymond Blank and the generosity of his family in meeting a critical healthcare need for Iowa's children that the hospital became a reality. Today that history of giving continues. Thousands of generous individuals, corporations and organizations stepped forward this past year to raise more than $8.5 million to create a new center of excellence for Iowa's children. Almost 60 years after its opening, Blank Children's Hospital remains a treasure for Iowa's ill and injured children.
Blank Children's Hospital recognizes that when it comes to children's healthcare some things never change! Children are not small adults! The health needs of children really are different than the health needs of adults. Children's hospitals must address caring for those without financial resources. Nearly 40% of the young patients Blank serves are underinsured or uninsured.
Being faithful to children and putting children first attracts good, talented people at all levels - from more than 35 pediatric sub-specialty physicians, to specially trained nurses and child life specialists and hundreds of volunteers.
Blank Children's Hospital is committed to family-centered healing, caring and teaching. Blank is a tertiary care center for children, providing the highest level of pediatric care.
