Coffee, Cookies & Conversation - Supporting the Coffee, Cookies & Conversation program provides patients and families on the Adult Oncology floor and the Radiation Oncology Department with sweet treats and friendly smiles from volunteers during challenging times.
Cancer Care Coordinator Program - The Cancer Care Coordinator Program was developed to ensure that no patient would ever walk the cancer journey alone. The coordinators are specially trained oncology nurses who provide education and support through the diagnosis, surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, rehabilitation, and the ups and downs of the cancer journey. The goal is to walk along with the patient and family and guide them through the process, working with members of the interdisciplinary care team to help bridge and connect patients and their families with resources within the cancer center and in the community. Most importantly, the care coordinators provide hope and encouragement to patients and loved ones so they can have the best quality of life possible while going through treatment. This program is provided free of charge to all patients and is not reimbursed through insurance, it is supported through philanthropy.
"What's On Your Mind?" Counseling Program - Our staff believe that the proper treatment of cancer not only includes addressing physical symptoms, but psychological ones as well. Provided at no charge by the John Stoddard Cancer Center, this program provides individual and group counseling psychological services to patients at a time when it is needed most. Free counseling by a licensed psychologist is also available in general to patients and families.
Stoddard Compassion Fund - Contributions to this fund provide additional support to patients and families beyond what the hospital is able to provide.
Support Groups - The John Stoddard Cancer is host to dozens of support groups for our patients, their families and others affected by cancer. Through a generous gift of a benefactor we are able to provide these services at no cost to the participants. With your gift to our cancer support group fund we will be able to expand and build upon the current holistic approach to cancer care and make a lasting difference in the fight against cancer!
Technology and/or Equipment - Medical practices and equipment are changing at light speed. Advancement in the research, care and medical needs of cancer patients has surpassed any of our wildest dreams. As these technologies change, so do the expectations of our patients and their families. Staying on the cutting edge of technology and care is very costly. Insurance covers basic expenses related to the care of our patients. Expansion and enhancement of our services and facilities must come through charitable contributions if we are to provide all of the latest advancements. Your gift can be specifically designated to an area of our hospital. These dollars will be ear marked for the enhancement and advancement of services to the patients in those areas.
Inpatient Unit Renovation/Expansion - In coming years, the John Stoddard Cancer Center would like to renovate and expand the inpatient unit so that all rooms are private, as well as include a chapel and an outdoor healing garden.
Research - Through bench top and bedside research, the Researchers here at Iowa Methodist have made great strides in the battle against the cure for cancer. Our Stoddard Cancer Research Institute is involved in a multitude of clinical and bedside cancer research. Some of which are available only here in Des Moines. Research is necessary in the fight against this often-devastating disease. It is also very expensive. We can be in this fight together! Your gift will provide the necessary dollars to continue this fight through bench top and bedside cancer research.
Patient Assistance - Cancer can devastate a person physically and financially. Through patient assisted funds we can help reduce the burden and add a sense of hope for those in need. These funds will be used to provide financial assistance for medications, treatments, overnight accommodations for patients and/or families, transportation, support group therapies, and a vast array of other needs that arise. Your gift will directly affect the lives of those we treat.
