When Did You Stop Noticing?

My 22-year-old brother-in-law, who was recently at our house, asked, "When do you stop noticing if there is spit-up and SUCH on you?" Good question my friend, good question! So, here is a key indicator of a parent of young children. At any given moment, it is possible to have slobber, spit-up, bubbles, food, stickers...and such on you, and you may have no idea, or quite possibly, you just don't notice anymore!

I can't tell you how many times I have been sitting at work for about three hours, only to look down and notice I've been sporting a Thomas sticker all morning. Awesome! I think at about day 4 of parenting you quickly realize your "wants" (sleep) are a luxury, and you are lucky to meet your "needs" (eat / shower). Fortunately for me, I'm not very high maintenance when it comes to a spotless house, ironed clothes and my hair done. And lucky for me, I LOVE sweatpants!

There are two quotes that I recently saw on Pinterest, which shined a bit of a light on my "current condition:"

1)  If you can work out in it or sleep in it, you shouldn't wear it in public.
2) Always dress for an encounter with your worst enemy.

Well, I guess I'll go ahead and call chasing my kids/cleaning up after them a "work-out" and have no shame when it comes to going out in public in my sweats (I'll try and make sure they are clean and inspected before leaving).  And as for my worst enemy, if I have one, I fold, you win! And just to confirm that I have lost that battle, a few months back, one of my boys (don't forget they are 4) kept asking me what that sound was coming from upstairs. It was grandma blow drying her hair!

I give an A+ to the moms who pull it all off, as for me, I take it a day at a time. Some days are beautiful, others are a crazy mess, but we are living our lives and making memories.
