October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and a unique opportunity to highlight the important role prevention and early detection play in the ongoing fight against breast cancer.
In honor of the millions of men and women who have been affected by breast cancer, the staff from John Stoddard Cancer Center will be on-hand at the Downtown Des Moines Farmers’ Market to discuss the latest in cancer prevention and treatments.
Breast Cancer Awareness Starts with
Prevention and Early Detection
Nearly one in eight women will develop invasive breast cancer during their lifetime. Medical research has allowed for a wealth of new knowledge on the disease, but until we discover the cure, prevention and early detection are the most effective ways to take charge of your breast health.
If abnormalities in your best health occur, such a lumps, masses or thickening, do not wait to contact your physician. Breast cancer survival rates are highest when the disease is diagnosed in its earliest stages and most treatable.
