Multidisciplinary Team

Since its inception in 2005, the multidisciplinary Liver Disease Committee at UnityPoint Health - Des Moines has worked together as a team to help numerous patients fight liver disease and live healthier lives. As part of our Center for Liver Disease, the multidisciplinary Liver Committee is a team of physicians and nurses from surgical oncology, medical oncology, hepatology, gastroenterology, transplant surgery and interventional radiology.

"The entire team communicates well together and has the skills to contribute to patient evaluation and management," says Dr. Dan Kollmorgen, surgical oncologist. "We feel that our multidisciplinary team is an important requirement to arrive at a correct diagnosis and effective treatment plans."

The Liver Disease Committee meets at 7:00 a.m. on the first Thursday of each month at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. During this time, liver disease patient cases are presented and discussed with formal recommendations made based on the consensus of the committee. Any physicians with interest or who have patients they may want to discuss are invited to attend. The committee is designed to work closely with referring physicians and supplement their care by offering specialized consultation and assessment. We also offer advanced consultative case review for complicated liver disease patients to physicians across Iowa.
