Pharmacy Resident, Meagan Freeze

I graduated from UMKC School of Pharmacy and moved to Des Moines soon after to start my residency. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Iowa Methodist. The rotations the program offers are great learning experiences with exceptional preceptorship. The preceptors give you independence to grow on your own, but are always there any time you need them. The staff is extremely nice and friendly and answer any questions you have. I did not imagine I would learn and grow this much in the first part of my residency and I am looking forward to the rest of the year! Des Moines is also a great city, full of bike trails, running trails, shopping, and great restaurants.

 In my experiences thus far as a PGY-1 resident, I have had the opportunity to participate in multi-disciplinary patient care rounds, precept pharmacy students, provide educational programming, and assist with the implementation of a new clinical trial. These activities are only a glimpse of the wide array of learning opportunities at IHDM available to PGY-1 residents. The pharmacy department is highly respected among physicians and other members of the healthcare team making the pharmacy resident's participation in patient care activities not only desired, but essential. Collaboration with Drake University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences allows the residents to participate in their New Faculty Topic Series to prepare us for precepting as well as didactic teaching in the University curriculum throughout the year.  Already I have been able to experience so much and I feel like the year is just beginning!
