Recycling Initiatives

UnityPoint Health - Des Moines has implemented a number of recycling initiatives to reduce waste as well as healthcare costs. Cardboard is a major part of UnityPoint Health - Des Moines's recycling initiatives. In 2010, we saved almost 350,000 pounds of cardboard. In addition, more than 14,000 pounds of paper has been recycled since the beginning of 2010 due to the implementation of a paper recycling program. Plastic recycling includes more than just beverage bottles. We strive to recycle as many types of plastic as possible by sorting the plastic by type to ensure they are accepted by appropriate markets. Plastic packaging and containers from clinical areas are recycled safely and increase waste avoidance.
