Transitional Care Unit at Iowa Lutheran Hospital
The Transitional Care Unit (TCU) or Skilled Services, is for the patient who requires short term inpatient skilled nursing care as a bridge between hospital and home. This patient typically requires short-term physical or occupational therapy for 30-60 minutes per day or requires skilled nursing services seven days per week.
Some examples of the nursing needs of the Transitional Care Unit patient are:
TCU patients also have a diagnosis and physician plan of treatment and no longer require intense testing, procedures or daily physician visits.

Our skilled unit opened in 1985 and has an excellent reputation in the community. Care is provided to persons with a wide variety of injuries and illnesses by highly experienced nurses, therapists, pharmacists, social workers and many other professionals.
Accreditations & Regulations
The TCU successfully completes an annual unannounced review by the Iowa Department of Inspection and Appeals. We meet the requirements of DNV (Det Norske Veritas).
TCU at Iowa Lutheran Hospital is a Medicare (CMS) 5-star rated facility. One of very few in Central Iowa.
Facilities
The TCU is located on the fifth floor of the Iowa Lutheran Hospital campus. Patients overlook the beautiful downtown Des Moines skyline and the state capital.

Our employees, with an average of more than 10 years' experience, will provide you with exceptional care. A Registered Nurse is on duty twenty-four hours per day to meet patient needs.
